In 1952 John Joannides and Costas Paschalis decided to pool their resources and set up a retail food business near the West End of London.
Very soon the burgeoning Cypriot Community in this area created a strong demand for Greek and Cypriot foods.
The Company, known by its present name, satisfied this demand by directly importing, retailing and wholesaling products from Cyprus and Greece.
Until the late 1960’s the company was also an early importer of fresh fruit and vegetables from Cyprus including okra, eggplants and Jerusalem Artichokes and was instrumental in providing the early Indian restaurant trade with important staple ingredients.
Over time the Company naturally developed its portfolio of food products to include sources from all around the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Our signature features are authenticity and quality, supported by our unrivalled experience.
We pride ourselves in representing the very best and renowned producers of these ethnic products and our loyal relationship with both suppliers and customers in some cases has existed for over 50 years.
As a company, we have adapted to changing market demands continuing our mantra of promoting traditional and genuine ingredients avoiding gimmicky varietals.
Today, the range is structured, eclectic and unique amongst those imported into the UK, comprising products from all around the Mediterranean and Middle East.
With this ethos, J&P became a pioneer in this sector of food, championing and introducing many products into the UK. These include the now well known cheeses from this area, such as Feta and Halloumi, as well as Kalamata Olives, Tahini paste and Filo pastry leaves amongst many others.
